What a great video! I might just go out and buy myself a pressure cooker now. I’ve wanted one for ages, but I’ve always been petrified of them. My momma used to boil peanuts in one when I was little. I’d love to be able to do that for my friends now!
Thank you, Mimi! Uh, I need to know your Momma’s recipe for boiling peanuts. I’ve never eaten boiled peanuts. Did she season them in any special way?
Hi Jill, thanks for the demo on how to pressure cook purple hulled peas. You explained everything so well, made it look easy and delicious and were very encouraging! Grandmother used a pressure cooker, but I must have been too young and scared to learn. Now it’s too late as she is gone. However, I’m not afraid now! Thanks to you, I’m ready to go out, buy one and start cookin’ those beans and more! Fast, inexpensvie and nutritious is what I’m after! Our church ladies are having a training session next week and I want to be prepared! I love cooking and want to share good recipes and techniques with my clients too. THANKS again, Jill! Do more videos. Alice
THANK YOU, ALICE! I can’t wait for you to get your pressure cooker. Let me know which one you settle on. My aunt and canning buddy both have electric pressure cookers, and they love’em!
I haven’t researched all the choices, yet. But if my ol’ Presto ever gives out, I’ll be checking them out. I saw one at Target last week that looked easy to work, but it couldn’t hold enough food to feed my family and provide leftovers. Anyhoo. I’m keeping my out eye.
I LOVE this video!!!!
Thank you, Shawna!
I cooked up a batch of New England Baked Beans and used my pressure cooker to shave 1-hour and 10-minutes off the cooking time.
Here’s the baked beans recipe:

Thanks for the video. I am trying my first pot of beans today in a pressure cooker. We recently moved to Santa Fe and at 7000 feet everyone has said you got to cook your beans with a pressure cooker. I have a good recipe, threw everything in the pot, and realized I didn’t have a clue on how this cooker was suppose to work! I watched your video and now my regulator is making that sh-sh-sh noise just at the right rate. Can’t wait for the beans to be done. Thanks!
Well Fred, I am so glad you found the video! Pressure cookers can a be quite mysterious and a little unnerving the first time we use them.
You let me know how your beans turned out. I’d like to know how you seasoned them. Oh, and if you ever have questions about cooking something else in the cooker, holler for me!
Thanks for the video =. Yes I am scared, but you make it look so easy what else can you cook in a presure cooker? Can you do pot roast?
I love, love, love my pressure cookers. Yes, two. Been using them for many years. My first one and I still have it is now 75 years old which was given to me by my dear Aunt. It’s a 6 qt and I do lots of wonderful items in it. The second one is 8 qt and I purchased that about 15 years ago and it is stainless steel. Beef Stew, Chicken Soup, beans, potatoes, rice and so much more. What a great time saver for those of us who need to find extra time to feed our families healthy meals. Thank you Jill for spotlighting this wonderful pot.
I love all 3 of mine!! I haven’t used them much since my husband passed away last Nov 25. I’m just starting to get back into cooking & will start using them again.
You did a great job on the video!!
l’ve boiled peanuts always did it in the slow cooker with about a cup of salt, never thought of the pressure cooker look out gonna try some tomorrow
You’ve taken it over the top again! Loved the video! Great job! I will definitely get myself a pressure cooker now. I love chick peas and prefer the dried peas over canned but they seem to take forever to cook so cooking with the pressure cooker will definitely make it easier. Thanks!
I can not imagine life without my pressure cookers! I have been using them now for 15+ years. I love to make flan, beans, stews, etc. also for making stock and canning. It is fast and healthy. I am trying to teach my son who is 25 how to use one. Thank you for the great video.
Carolyn
Hi Carolyn!
I sure hope your son appreciates what you’re doing for him. When I think about it, if I had to choose between a pressure cooker or a slow cooker, I’d take the pressure cooker without hesitation.
That was very informative, thanks!
I have an old National pressure cooker / canner that is missing the manual, I need to figure out how it works and how to cook with it. Are there more videos that might be pertinent?
I found a manual for the National Pressure cooker. Here’s my affiliate link to it on Amazon. Take a look and see if it will help solve the mystery of using your cooker.
I do have it on my project list to produce more pressure cooker videos. Any particular vegetable, legume, or meat you’re interested in?
Whoops! I forgot the link to the manual….
