Banana Blueberry and Spinach Smoothie

One of my favorite ways to start my day is drinking a healthy, plant-based smoothie.  Since I started eating solely whole food plant-base recipes, my outlook and health has improved dramatically.  At 44, I have more energy throughout my whole day than I did when I was thirty.  I am truly amazed and thrilled!

This Banana Blueberry and Spinach smoothie recipe is one I use to get more iron and phytonutrients into my family.  They have no idea their slurping down fresh spinach. All they can taste is the banana and blueberries.

HERE’S ALL IT TAKES

serves 4

  • 3 cups firmly packed baby spinach
  • 3 medium cold bananas
  • 1 1/2 cups frozen blueberries
  • 2 tablespoons fresh ground flaxseed
  • 2 cups non-dairy milk (soy, almond, coconut, etc.)

Blend on high in a drink blender for a minimum of  20 seconds, long enough for the spinach to blend down into non-existence.  This will keep all day in the fridge.  The color will darken slightly because of the bananas, but it will still taste delicious.

it is excellent stuff. I saw this on tv awhile back but did not remember what it was for. I’ve been using this receipe for 3 months. Taste good. For liquid I use water.

Good combi! I am eating it right now :)

I made so alterations for the sake of the taste:

    Here are some tips:

    – use more bananas (cheetah coated, so they’re really sweet!)

    – less than 1 tbsp. ground-flax-seeds (larger quantities are always too easy to taste and in sweet smoothie it isn’t optimal – in my opinion :) )

    – **less liquid (I don’t buy store bought plant milk, I just make my own ‘plain’ not sweetened version tough!) PRO: less means more sweetness and less calories (many from fat). CON: it won’t be a smoothie to drink with a straw, but to eat with a spoon (and this might also be a CON)

    – And if you’re gonna eat with a spoon lets go all the way: slice a banana up and put it into the smoothie and eat it as such! So good :)

**Usually when I make banana berry soft-ice I use almost no water and it is always really sweet! It’s raw & vegan only with 5-10 grams of ground flax seeds – nothing else, The water is for pulverizing the flax seeds until ground. Oh, and of course I only freeze fully ripened bananas, which and are the sweetest (its supposed to look like a cheetah).

Have a sunny & yummy day,
    love Yael :)
