I used Road Kill Grill Seasonings to grill this wonderfully spicy, smoky tilapia fillet.
HERE'S ALL IT TAKES
Serves 2
- 2 tilapia fillets
- olive oil
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 to 3 teaspoons Road Kill Grill Seasoning
Get the grill hot & ready using a handy dandy chimney starter.
Liberally oil a nonstick grill sheet to help keep the fish from sticking, then set it aside.
Microwave at 80% power, 2 to 3 tablespoons of olive oil and minced garlic for 1 minute. Heat oil just long enough to infuse it with the garlic flavor.
Dry off the fillets with a paper towel, then coat them with garlic oil on both sides. On one side, sprinkle 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons Road Kill Grill Seasoning on fillets.
HANDY TIP
To help keep the spices on the fillet, spray nonstick cooking spray on top of the spices, enough to moisten. If you have a spray bottle for oils, it would come in handy right about now.
Grill tilapia 4 to 7 minutes, depending on thickness of the fillets. DO NOT FLIP. It takes very little time to cook through over a hot grill, so don't go walk away. Test the fillet with a fork; it's done when it flakes apart.

Jill,
Tilapia is my favorite fish and this is giving me cravings. Looks delish!

ME TOO, Francie!
Now why am I surprised that we both like the same food?
After all, you & I are gastronomically related kinfolk.
I’ve been given a recipe for Fish Tacos, using tilapia. I can’t wait to try it.
[...] voted it to be OUTSTANDING for Blackened Tilapia and Grilled Shrimp. I can already see us eating it on chicken and steak, [...]
Blackened Tilapia
Using indoor grill…Put fish seasoning side down or up for grilling?
Good morning Pete!
Season side UP, no matter an indoor grill, outdoor grill, or the oven broiler.
Tilapia is my favorite fish too! and grilled/smoked tilapia are the best. my grandma stuff the belly of the fish with onions, dried tomatoes, garlic and other spices and they are yummy too!
I live in Western Australia, I absolutely no idea what road kill seasoning is, could you enlighten me please, or supply an alternative.
Hi David,
It’s a hot spice blend sold on Cooking.com. If you click on words “Road Kill Grill Seasoning” in the first paragraph of this post, it will take you to the place to buy it.
If you have a spice blend that works for blacken fish or really hot steak seasoning, it will work just the same. Road Kill Grill Seasoning is nothing exotic. It’s just something fun to use and give to grilling friends.
Thank you for the reply, I will give it a go.
This looks AHmazing…lol Hubs and I LOVE tilapia. BUT, son is allergic. It’s so weird…He can eat ANY other seafood and fish, but when he eats tilapia, it’s not good… (puke)…LOL I wonder if I could use orange roughy or some other mild white thin fish? Prob so…..I prob won’t purchase that rub….but I like the simple technique…Will totally use that idea…
We like the ‘slap yo mama’ rub/seasoning. It’s a lot like Tony’s.
