Attention RSS Subscribers Print

Everyday I look up at the top right hand side of this place and I watch the RSS Readers number get higher and higher. But you know what? I don't think I know the people behind the number. I know every one of my email subscribers. We chat back & forth via email all the time.

I wish there were a way I could know who my RSS folks were.

I GOT IT!!! Do me this favor right now, it won't take but a minute of your time.

  • Leave me a "Hello" in the comment box of this post.

If you have a few moments, tell me a little about yourself.

  • What is it about this blog that keeps you reading?
  • Are you single learning to cook, a single parent, have picky eaters, a big family, a small family, on a budget...

I'm not looking for your mailing address, I just want to get to know you better. I want to know who I'm talking to when I'm alone at my desk with a latte sitting under my chin, typing out all these recipes. I sure would appreciate you doing this for me.

Seriously, I'm waiting and watching to hear from you.

Hello! Single with one “picky child” (of 84) to please (the impossible), on a strict budget, in the UK. Always looking for inspiration. :)

    Hi Jill,

I’m Dave from the UK. 39 years old. Househusband (Wife has gone back to work). Father of 4 (Boy 7yrs, Boy 5yrs, Girl 2yrs & Girl 1yr).

I’d love to improve my basic cooking skills while reducing the cost and the waste. I’m hoping that good fresh food needn’t cost the earth or take hours to prepare and cook. :)

I’ve only just found your site and jumped right in by trying the Strawberry Smoothie. Fantastic!

I struggle to find time everyday, but I aim to come back as often as I can.

I couldn’t resist your invitation to post. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that done before. It made me smile.

    Thanks

    Dave.

  3. Jill says:

    Sweet!!!

Hello David and Pamela! I’m so glad to meet you and thank you for responding so quickly.

Pamela, I don’t follow. Is that picky child 84 years old or were they born in 1984? Help me understand.

David, my apron is off to you, friend. “Househusband” how cool is that! Do you like the work?
I know the pays not much, but the benefits can’t be matched.

You two, email me if you need anything.

  4. Ben says:

    Hey Jill!

Well you know me :D Ben from Columbus, Ohio (for now) with a family of two in a sometimes very tight budget. Always getting inspired by your creations :)

  5. Gary says:

Hello! Gary from St. Louis, Missouri, USA. How nice of you to ask about us!

I’m a bachelor that knows his way around the kitchen. But after my 10+ hour workdays as a graphic desinger, I need simple, easy recipes. Thank you for providing so many of them!

  6. Psychgrad says:

I like a range of recipes – but tend to be attracted to simple, fresh ingredients that are relatively accessible in my city. I also like the videos showing how something is made. I’m a product of the MTV generation, so I could probably handle shorter videos – but I also like to learn the details (fussy fussy).

Hi Jill, I am a 36 year old working mother, with 2 teen boys and a hungry husband ;) I am from the Dallas area and have been reading your blog for about 6-8 months now? Maybe more, I loose track of time!

I cook almost every night of the week, and make everyone stop what they are doing to sit at the table for family dinner. I am just looking for different things to cook each night, learn new techniques and just fun ideas!

Thanks for asking about us, I really love reading our blog!

  8. Kinga says:

I’m Kinga, I live in Poland with my husband and son (just turned 1…the son, not the husband). I like cooking and I love eating but I worry that I cook similar things over and over again, so this site is an inspiration to try something new; quick, good-tasting food that we all can enjoy. I can pick up most of the ingredients in Poland, too, which is helpful! I also like the posts where you focus on a single skill (such as the Parboiled Rice Cooking Directions post from a while back). I save them in my bloglines and return to them when I need to do so.

Love your blog…and now you know why. :)

  9. Dave Fowler says:

    Jill,

Being a Househusband is brilliant, but it’s also the hardest work I’ve ever done… and I’m qualified to say that, because I’ve done some hard work in my time.

Thank you for the kind invitation to send you an email if I need to. I’m fairly sure I’ll need to take you up on that. :)

    Thanks again,

    Dave

Oh!…. you know me Jill ;) Me a home-maker living with my hubby:)

Love all your “GRILL” recipes and the way you describe them:) I like your way of writing:)

  12. Matt says:

Hello! I have been reading your recipes for quite a while now; I can’t even remember how I found the site. I am a husband as well as a father of 2 and just love cooking. I look to your site everyday (through RSS feed via http://www.netvibes.com) for great recipe ideas. I love recipes that are simple and that don’t require exotic ingredients. We are currently living overseas and coming by the more unique ingredients in recipes is too much of a challenge. Keep up the great work!

  13. Mari says:

Your recipes inspire me, even if I don’t use them. I read to see what simple things I could put together, if only I would remember to buy the ingredients at the store. Sometimes it occurs to me later. Your RSS is much more useful than the shelves full of cookbooks I don’t open. Love it, keep it up. Simple is the *key*!

  14. DW says:

Hello! I started reading your blog after you interviewed my other half, “Mr. Fromage”. The nice, no-nonsense recipes, the fun ideas, and posts about our “food heritage” (e.g., Fresh Cucumber Pickles) keep me reading.

I’m no chef, but a pretty good cook (and grill-hound), and you give me great ideas for cooking on a budget.

    Thanks!!!

  15. Andy says:

  19. Elizabeth says:

    Hello!!
Elizabeth here, from Boston, MA. a newylwed and novice cook, i’m always really excited to read what you post and what you’re up to in the kitchen. i’m in the process of learning to cook and gather what will become our “family favorites” but with fun, new and exciting twists — and of course on a big (or rather small i guess) budget. you put so much effort into making sure the recipes you put out there for cooks like me will be the best ever with the least effort – and for that, i adore you!! :) … i’m also excited to cook for a family one day, so i gobble all the inspiration i can from your blog for family dinners … at least for one day. thanks for keeping things simple, easy and classic yet still super exciting and fun. xox, elizabeth

Hi Jill! I’m Ali from Arkansas. I’ve been married for 11 years now and often feel like I’m in a cooking rut. I’m always looking for new, easy, unpretentious recipes. I tried your sloppy joes last with with a couple of changes–I used turkey, some diced onion, and put it in the crock pot. Awesome. Thanks!

  21. Jill says:

    Hello Elizabeth & Ali!
