Swirly Peanut Butter Brownies

post thumbnail

An OUTSTANDING recipe for peanut butter and chocolate to come together in a dense, cakey delight. Naturally, as with most dense breads, these brownies are WAY BETTER the next day.  Unfortunately, there weren't many leftover to enjoy.  So, if you're planning to make these ahead of time, HIDE THEM!!! HERE'S ALL IT TAKES 2/3 cup sugar 1/2 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 cup softened butter 2 tablespoon... More...

Simple Fruit Pastry Bites

post thumbnail

So Maggie walks into the kitchen and says, "Mom, can I have one of those things to eat with the jelly on the inside?" I knew what she was talking about, but I wasn't about to say yes to those.  I did, however, have a lone sheet of phyllo pastry in the freezer that needed a purpose and plenty of fruit preserves and a little Nutella left in a jar to whip up something fun for her. HERE'S WHAT I DID After... More...

Simple Pumpkin Yogurt, Breakfast or Dessert

post thumbnail

Have you ever heard of pumpkin yogurt?  It's a first for me.  I'll tell ya, at first taste, my mind had to do quite a bit of undoing to all it associates with pumpkin and yogurt.  But the two are very good together, especially when they've had time to get it on after a long night in the frig. Now, I didn't make this recipe up.  Kim invited me to a local cooking class put on by the Texas Ag Extension... More...

Apple Pear and Cranberry Crisp

post thumbnail

This is a very good dessert to throw together, especially with apples and pears being on sale right now. The recipe makes a big batch, but once you've shared it with your babysitter and your friends, it only lasts about 36 hours in the frig.  Sigh.  Oh the memories. I pretty much followed Ina Garten's Pear, Apple and Cranberry Crisp recipe.  Naturally, I was missing an ingredient or two, so improvised. ... More...

Fruit and Creamy Yogurt

post thumbnail

This best way I can describe this is, is...well, it's reminds me of bread pudding without the bread. It's cool and creamy.  The tender sweet peaches with the crunchy granola and the cinnamon mixed with the vanilla yogurt are enough to make you groan out loud.  Not like you're shampooing your hair in that old TV commercial, not THAT much groan, but more like, I'm home and my Momma just made me something... More...

Champion Cookie Truffles

post thumbnail

Of all the sweet treats I take time to make, these cookie truffles are probably my most favorite recipe.  They are sweet without being too rich.  The chocolate coating has a snap, while the inside has a soft, smooth, creamy texture.  It takes 5, count'em 5, ingredients to put them together.  They're also pretty and make me look like a super star at parties! Last week, I wrote about making Cake... More...

Ever since I read about Cake Balls in Wednesday's paper, I couldn't WAIT to make them and share with you! Cake Balls are the New Candy Truffle.  They are a rich treat that should be served at all baby showers, wedding parties, and of course, the holiday parties ahead of us.  They are made by combining crumbled baked cake with frosting, scooping the mixture into balls, and dipping them in melted... More...

Blood Orange Gelato

post thumbnail

I looked up Gelato on Webster's Online Dictionary... Pronunciation: \je-lä-toe\ Function: noun Inflected Form(s): plural ge·la·ti also ge·la·tos Etymology: Italian, literally, frozen Date: 1929 : a soft rich ice cream containing little or no air . Well, ok. It's a fancy word for ice cream.  You know, the way it's thrown around in the foodie world, I thought it was some special technique or... More...

This Simple Orange Cake should be called EVIL ORANGE CAKE. I HIGHLY recommend you bake it, eat one slice, then RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN to your neighbor's house and give it to them! DO NOT KEEP IT OUT ON YOUR COUNTER! YOU'LL EAT IT! Of course, not all in one bite, nohoho, no. Every time you walk past it, you'll pinch off a bite, or two. Simple Apple Squares

post thumbnail

Simple Apple Squares are so moist and addictive, it's a good thing they're easy to make again and again. This dessert is just the beginning of a looong list of dessert recipes that have fallen into my hands... Mwah ha ha ha ha haaa (that's my sinister laugh). My neighbor loaned me a stack of OOOOOLLLLLD recipe books loaded with recipes our grandmothers fretted over. I have compiled a list of really... More...
