Simple Pumpkin Yogurt, Breakfast or Dessert

post thumbnail

Have you ever heard of pumpkin yogurt?  It's a first for me.  I'll tell ya, at first taste, my mind had to do quite a bit of undoing to all it associates with pumpkin and yogurt.  But the two are very good together, especially when they've had time to get it on after a long night in the frig. Now, I didn't make this recipe up.  Kim invited me to a local cooking class put on by the Texas Ag Extension... More...

Apple Pear and Cranberry Crisp

post thumbnail

This is a very good dessert to throw together, especially with apples and pears being on sale right now. The recipe makes a big batch, but once you've shared it with your babysitter and your friends, it only lasts about 36 hours in the frig.  Sigh.  Oh the memories. I pretty much followed Ina Garten's Pear, Apple and Cranberry Crisp recipe.  Naturally, I was missing an ingredient or two, so improvised. ... More...

Boo! Chocolate Covered Ghost Pretzels for little monsters

post thumbnail

You know how you see these holiday specials that show how to make treats for Halloween but they show it to you the DAY before Halloween (I'm not mentioning names...MARTHA!). Well, how is THAT supposed to help me?  Unlike you (MARTHA!) I don't have 30 yards of muslin, 2 pounds of fresh truffles and a container of edible gold dust in my closet unlike some insanely rich entertaining guru who has a full... More...

Cake Balls the New Candy Truffle

post thumbnail

Ever since I read about Cake Balls in Wednesday's paper, I couldn't WAIT to make them and share with you! Cake Balls are the New Candy Truffle.  They are a rich treat that should be served at all baby showers, wedding parties, and of course, the holiday parties ahead of us.  They are made by combining crumbled baked cake with frosting, scooping the mixture into balls, and dipping them in melted... More...

Simple Orange Cake

post thumbnail

This Simple Orange Cake should be called EVIL ORANGE CAKE. I HIGHLY recommend you bake it, eat one slice, then RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN to your neighbor's house and give it to them! DO NOT KEEP IT OUT ON YOUR COUNTER! YOU'LL EAT IT! Of course, not all in one bite, nohoho, no. Every time you walk past it, you'll pinch off a bite, or two. And before know it, half the cake is MISSING !!! This is a... More...

Blue Magnolia Bread Pudding Mix

post thumbnail

I wasn't a bread pudding fan until I ate Blue Magnolia's Cinnamon Bread Pudding. Oh mercy, was it GOOD! I was over shopping in my favorite little town of Winnsboro, Texas. Winnsboro is such a cool little place with great live music, awesome restaurants and fun shopping. Oh, and the spa! (pause for a moment of daydreaming) ANYHOO! This bread pudding is AWESOME! EASY! and anyone can bake it, even... More...

Baked Ham

post thumbnail

Baked hams are not just for special occasions. Of course, it seems we can always get them at a better price around the holidays. I love a good sale, one that makes me want to stock up. Oooo, the word "Clearance" really makes me stop what I'm doing. Have you ever been in a Target and tried NOT to glance over or peruse their $1 corner? It's like the ultimate test of self control for shopping gladiators;... More...

Espresso Brownies

post thumbnail

Do I really need to tell you how moist these dark chocolate brownies taste?  Should I warn you that as you eat these bad boys, you'll eagerly pinch up every crumb that falls back on your plate and around it?  Not to mention the strong urges to hide them away from other family members.  Consider yourself warned. HERE'S ALL IT TAKES 1 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup butter, softened 1... More...

Rice Crispy Sweet Treats

post thumbnail

My son has requested this sweet treat for his 8th birthday party this weekend.  I realize this recipe is on every rice cereal box and marshmallow bag known to man.  And I'm not here to post a new twist on a old recipe.  Heck, I say, "if it's not broke, don't fix it!" If fact, I have a real beef with all the ways this recipe is written.  I've never been able to remember the ratio of butter to marshmallow... More...

Frozen Cranberry Dessert

post thumbnail

The first time we tried this dessert was at a pot luck holiday party.  The best thing about pot lucks is there's always something new to try.  For the adventurous types, this is a lot of fun.  For picky eaters, it's spells an evening of loading up on chips.  For those with highly trained taste buds, they get to play food critic to a buffet line.  See?  Pot... More...

Simple and Delicious Pumpkin Cookies

post thumbnail

Every Thanksgiving holiday, it's my responsibility to bake the pumpkin pie and sweet potatoes. I have never dared to alter these traditional dishes. Certain flavors run too deep in our memories, to change them would only upset the harmony. Not to mention, my family would totally rag on me for 'fixin' somethin' that ain't broke!' However, with all the blogging going on and trying to keep it fresh,... More...
