Note: this is my great grandmas cipie, very close.... One key thing I might add, do not butter your pans, they will ruin this cake... Spray them with the baking spray lt sit a few mins, then spray again... And turn the oven down 5 deg... I promise no more messed up cakes!

I love the sound of that! I have come to enjoy maple syrup, salt, cinnamon and ancho chili powder toasted on seeds. I dig those hot & sweet flavors coming together. I find it really hard to stop eating.

If you plan to blend the onions to make a smooth sauce, then add the sour cream after blending the sauce. (The kid friendly tip.)
Otherwise, add the sour cream after adding the broth.

I also love doing roasted seeds. I usually use Butternut Squash. I add a variety of spice. One of my favorite blends is a little touch of olive oil, maple syrup, smoked paprika and/or hot paprika, chipotle powder, salt and freshly toasted ground cumin. I also like Emeril's "Essence Blend" of spices. It creates sweet heat, a nice accent to the smooth, creamy feel of squash. This gets tossed in salad, soup or roasted squash which I normally roast with equal parts maple syrup and fresh squeezed orange juice.

Thank you for sharing, Jami. That's a great idea to blend the soup for a sip-n-go cupful. I'll have to try that.

I had the basic ingredients; onion, celery & carrots, opened cans of tomatoes in the fridge, some cooked chicken breasts - no bells in the house or green chilis, so I used a few jalapenos in place. I had no sour cream, so I use yogurt to cool it off. I was also out of cilantro at the point of making it, but got some later and added it. Made a nice fresh aroma to the spicy soup. I have been craving soup, but can not sit at work with a bowl and a spoon-Im a bit more 'on the go'. I heat up a cup and more or less drink it, so I blended the soup, added the chopped, shredded chicken, very good guide and ingredient list. I love a well built recipe you can tweak. Thnaks!!
