Fresh Fruits are Just More Fun

I couldn't resist picking up a bag of cherries at the grocer the other day. It's been so long since I've eaten them and it was time my kids discovered their sweet flavor. While I was at it, I picked up a big bag of seedless black grapes.
When I got home, I washed them up in my salad spinner and put them in the frig. Uh no, I didn't 'spin' the fruit in my salad spinner. It doubles as a strainer and a food storage container. However, the kids liked giving the fruit a spin before they grabbed a handful of goodness.
When I saw them go for the spinning fruit before looking into the pantry, I decided immediately I would always keep fresh fruits in the salad spinner.
Come to think of it, not only are cherries delicious, but they're FUN! They have that pit in the center and with just the right amount of air pressure...you can spit that seed a good 12 feet!
And if you're truly talented and the stem is long enough, you can tie the stem in a knot with your tongue. I amazed my kids with that trick the other day. Now, they REALLY think I'm Wonder Woman!
and I thought I needed an invisible jet and a truth lasso, silly me.
But you know, on a more serious note, we don't need sugary desserts to have a satisfying dessert or snack. A simple bowl of fresh fruit left out in the open or kept easy to reach in the frig is all we need.
Two Good Tips to Help Your Family Eat More Fruits
- Avoid buying the same fruits week after week. Rotate the varieties.
- Buy just a few at a time. This will keep them from being over looked. Remember, scarcity drives up demand.
I wouldn't buy cherries every week, they're too expensive. But buying them when they come into season, keeps them new and interesting. The same goes for other fruits. While the pickin' is right, go explore the farmer's markets or see what's new at the grocer.
Be sure to throw in a salad spinner and a seed spittin' contest just for good measure!

Fresh fruits are definitely one of the best things about summer! Good for making pies, jams, crumbles or just eating straight and juicy
HOPIE! (((BIG HUG)))
I have turned into a peach eating fool this week!
My new friends, Steve & Lynn Jarvis run a beautiful farm. We picked two buckets of peaches from their orchard on Saturday evening and they’re the sweetest, juiciest peaches I’ve ever eaten.
I made a peach cobbler last night and it was awesome with vanilla yogurt poured over the top.
