Ground Beef Cooked Ahead Print

You will see me refer to this recipe, very often.  When I know I have a busy week coming up, I cook ahead.

I have learned to keep cooked meat and poultry in the freezer.  It saves me money to buy the meats in bulk and I save time when I cook it all up at once.   Later on when I reheat the cooked meats, they can easily be seasoned for Italian dishes, Tex-Mex dishes and simple down home meals.

HERE'S HOW I PRECOOK GROUND BEEF

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons oregano
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • pepper to taste

Crumble and cook meat with seasoning until well browned. Drain off any excess fat, allow to cool a few minutes. Divide meat into 1, 2 or 3 cup portions, you decide. Store in good freezer bags or containers and keep in freezer for future meals.

GOOD TO KNOW
Cooked meats
can be kept in the freezer 1 to 3 months.

How do you save time in the kitchen?
