How Much Food Do We Really Need On Our Plates Print

It doesn't matter what time of the year we are in, we can find a reason why we need to go on a diet.  As soon as the next mealtime comes around, we can find a reason why we can start that diet tomorrow.

In my efforts to research how much food we should be measuring out on our plates, I was reminded that we don't need charts, scales or measuring cups.  We just need to listen to our bodies.

Listen in on this podcast where I explain what I went through and how I came to this answer.

Listen in and Enjoy!

Thank you for listening!

    My first disclaimer:
I recognize there are folks out there that really do have special diets they need to follow. This podcast is not directed to them.

This is for the rest of us looking for healthier choices and perhaps are overwhelmed by how to go about it. This podcast is purely suggestive and is not the end all be all for obtaining a healthy lifestyle. Putting just whatever we like to eat on our plates in small quantities is not enough.

We MUST HAVE a balance diet with grains, vegetables, fruits, dairy, and lowfat/lean proteins for our bodies to run properly & efficiently.

Like the labels read: Seek the advice of your health physician before attempting any special diets.

    Jill,

    Great podcast!!

I’ve been trying to follow this rule, although somewhat loosely. I’m filling the plates instead of serving family style (in bowls) and putting less meat and more veggies on everyone’s plate, trying to slowly get my family to eat less meat and more veggies.

Have you read the book In Defense of Food? That has become my diet bible. All we need to be healthy is already inside us :)

You said, “Ya’ll, and Anyhoo…” LOVE it. This is a topic near and dear to my heart, so I enjoyed listening while I was trying out my new glove for my mandoline which helps keep my fingers in one piece. Some thoughts on your topic: I use a huge plate when I eat. The theory is interesting. If I place my food like high end restaurants do, all pretty and small right in the center, then I can take my photos for my blog and eat only what’s on my plate. Hilarious, but it works. No seconds. Ever. And I’m pretty good at that. Plus, I’ve been cutting down on quantities for my husband who is a second helping fanatic. He’s now dropped 16 lbs. not getting seconds. We don’t always have a starch on our plates. It depends on how bulky everything else is. And for what it’s worth, I once knew a woman who lost quite a bit of weight for health reasons. She had trained herself to imagine that her food fit into a box about the size of the palm of her hand portion wise. If it didn’t fit, she didn’t get to eat it. I borrow that idea too. But most importantly, I wait and as you said, “listen to my body” and then stop. That works, too. But then there’s the exercise thing, right? NICE JOB! I loved it!

    Thank you!
I’m glad this podcast came across well.

Did y’all enjoy listening to a podcast for a change? I’m considering if a weekly show for SDR would be well received.

Tell me what you think. I’ll podcast once a week if y’all want to listen.
