Operation Baking Gals and Simple Daily Recipes Unite

The kids and I just came from the post office. Our first box of baked goods for Operation Baking Gals is on it's way! The kids have totally grooved on this whole experience and are ready to bake some more.

If you haven't had the chance, take it now to listen to my interview with Susan from Operation Baking Gals. It's never too late to join a baking team or become a host of a baking team. Just email Susan and let her know.
SO HERE'S WHAT WE BAKED FOR THE SOLDIERS
All simple recipes to make. Everything was already in my pantry. And these baked goods will hold up for the long haul.
The Banana Nut Bars were particularly MOIST & AWESOME. They almost didn't make into the box. It took a lot of self control to pack them all, minus three for taste testing purposes. I had to know if they tasted right!

Check out the comments section of the Enlist in Operation Baking Gals post.
Even if you don't have a chance right now to get involved, I highly recommend simply reading over the Operation Baking Gals blog. Take a moment to enjoy the stories and feel the excitement being stirred up by all the hosts and bakers. This is a monthly event so you can always get involved next month.

I just got mine sent out, too! And it was because I saw the Operation Baking Gals post on your site a couple weeks ago that got me participating. So thanks!

ALRIGHT! Spreadin’ the love and the calories…YEAH!!!
I just came from your blog and completely enjoyed reading about your family and your dogs.
I particularly loved finding your dog in the Operation Baking Gals post. I couldn’t help but
laugh out loud.
I had no idea there was a movement to end the “muffintop.” Again, HILARIOUS!
Jill,
Thank you to you, and anyone else who got involved through the Simple Daily Recipes site (And of course to the creators of this program, Operation Baking Gals) for your involvement in this. As the father of a soldier, shipping out to Iraq in 13 days, it warms my heart to know that so many people, besides his family, care so much for him, and all of those who serve and are willing to do what they can to show their support.

OH TIM!
Give your son a BIG BIG HUG from the McKeevers.
You must be SO proud and so sick to your stomach at the same time.
What’s your son’s name?
(So we can add him to our prayers.)
When you get his address, let me know via email, so we can send him & his friends baked goods, too!
Thanks for the complements, Jill! I’m glad you liked my blog.
Tim, I hope your son comes home safe and sound.
Thanks Jill. His name is Shadrick. (Modernization of Biblical Shadrach). He is in the Army, in the 101st Airborne, and is headed for a base north of Baghdad.
I told him I was proud and supported his decisions, but that until he was home, safe and sound, I would be terrified.
Thanks again,
tim
about the Banana Nut Bars, did you actually ship them? if you did can you tell me how you packed them..I was thinking about making them for a friend who is now overseas. thank you!
Hi Amber!
Yes, I did ship them in a 1 gallon freezer bag. I had two other bags of cookies that helped fill the flat rate box. I also used crumpled paper to prevent the bags from sliding around.
The flat rate box was ?$11 & did not have a weight limit. The postal employee was most helpful in setting me up before I shipped the cookies. You can just head to the post office & they’ll give you the box and shipping label for Free! You just pay the flat rate.
