Firecracker Chicken Recipe
8 CommentsThis recipe comes from a loyal reader and friend here on SDR. Lori S. is a happily married wife, and mother of two teens. She keeps very busy serving her family as well as, several ministries in her community. When she finally sits down to take a break, I like catching up with her on Facebook. Lori sent this recipe to me the other day and it sounded so good, I figured you might want to give it try it as well.

My family and I are going ethnic this spring and summer and exposing ourselves to new cultures and foods-within a limit of course-each week as time and funds permit we will try a new dish from another country-this week its Thailand or Asian and we are making Firecracker Chicken for dinner-its a bit spicy but I am hoping my family will enjoy it. We will also be going across the globe-my son has an actual one in his room and taking a trip around the world this season as we explore each country and the food that makes it onto plates there. Its going to be a fun journey!
INGREDIENTS
- 4 chicken breasts, cut into strips
- Flour
- Pepper
- Salt
- Vegetable oil for frying
Sauce:
- 1/2 cup shoyu (soy sauce)
- 6 Tbsp sugar
- 2 cloves garlic, grated
- 1 chili pepper, diced OR 1 tsp red pepper flakes
- 2 green onions, chopped
- Plenty sesame seeds!
1.Mix sauce in a small bowl and set aside.
2.Salt, pepper, and flour the chicken breast strips.
3.Heat oil in the pan and fry the floured chicken. (You're not deep frying, so use less oil and flip the chicken once)
4.Immediately dip into the sauce and then place in serving dish.
5.Pour extra sauce over chicken before serving with hot sticky rice.
Amazingly, this recipe also tastes fantastic as straight-out-of-the-fridge leftovers.

This sounds very delicious…I will definitely give this a try. Thank you !
What a wonderful idea to try new dishes from different countries! You should blog about it as I, for one, would be very interested in what you and your family find from various countries and how the food tasted. Good luck w/your food adventure!

Cooking ethnic is getting to be a hobby for me, so I look forward to trying this. I’m assuming the chicken breasts are boneless?
I haven’t made this yet, but I assumed boneless as well.
Thanks for all the compliments and comments we are looking forward to this food journey-I have never blogged before so if someone can suggest a good place to start I would appreciate it very much!!!
I use boneless skinless chicken in most if not all of my chicken recipes-unless of course I am roasting a chicken. I like to use leaner cuts of meat whenever possible.
I am looking forward to this journey with my family and so thankful we can take this trip together with you our friends and family.
