Traditional Roast Dinner I love my crock pot or slow cooker, as some say.  It is the perfect plan ahead meal tool anyone could use in the kitchen.  So long as, I plan ahead in time.

I’m always torn as to how long I should actually cook my roast beast, 4-6 hours or 8-10 hours.  When I loose track of time, it ends up being 4-6 hours.  Most often, the roast turns out tender either way.

I do have one complaint about the slow cooker.  It’s not good to be home while it’s cooking.  It fills the house with the delicious aroma of dinner ALL DAY LONG.  It’s torture! And it makes me snack WAY TOO much.

HERE’S A SUPER SIMPLE ROAST DINNER

  • beef chuck roast (whatever fits your crock pot)
  • 1 envelope of Lipton Onion Soup seasoning
  • 2-3 cups water

Simply put everything in the crockpot 4-6 hours or 8-10 hours, depending how well you planned ahead.

My kids like mashed potatoes much more than potatoes cooked with the meat.  As for the carrots shown in the picture, I sliced 5  and ladled out enough broth from the crock pot to cover them in a small pan.  Simmered for 10 minutes, until tender.

For the gravy, ladle out 1 1/2 cups of beef broth from the crock into a sauce pan on med hi heat.  In a bowl, mix 1/4 cup water to 2 tablespoons of cornstarch, mix well until there’s no lumps.  Add to hot broth and stir until it thickens.  It’s the quickest way to get it to the table.
