30 Ways to Eat Sweet Potatoes

Don't feel like reading this whole list?  I read it for you in this goofy video.

I belong to several closed groups on Facebook. Now I understand and respect the reasons why there are closed groups. However, every now and then, a great topic comes up that doesn't deserve to be hidden under a bush.  Someone asked their online peers what was their favorite way to prepare sweet potatoes. BOY oh BOY! The response was so awesome and mouthwatering, I had to do something to get their ideas across to you. For the sake of getting the ideas to you as soon as possible, I copied & pasted peoples responses as they wrote them. I corrected the spelling and made sure the oven temperature was written uniformly, that's it. You're smart. Your brain will make the corrections naturally. All the ideas below are vegan and oil-free recipes for sweet potatoes. If you don't see your favorite way to eat sweet potatoes, PLEASE share with the rest of us in the comments section below.

  3. Make a hot sweet potato sandwich with a little Mrs. Dash Garlic and Herb seasoning.
  4. They are awesome in chili or a Garam Marsala curry. Or serve them with rice and a spicy sauce. They make a nice pairing with cooked greens where they almost become the sauce. Bake them in oven or pressure cook in an Instant Pot.
  5. Baked at 450ºF degrees for 1 hour sprinkled with cinnamon.
  6. Love mine with applesauce, raisins and cinnamon! Very rarely, I'll put peanut butter on it! So good!

  8. Hot from the microwave with a little Ancho chili powder sprinkled on top.
  9. Baked with bits of cloves, cinnamon, and allspice sprinkled on top.
  10. I love them topped with a little leftover veggie chili!
  11. Squeeze fresh lime juice on them after baking or nuking. This is very popular in Mexico and delicious.
  12. There is a recipe for Enchilada strata which uses sweet potatoes, spinach, and beans, layered with corn tortillas. Freeze single serving portions. Later on, thaw and reheat in microwave.
  13. I love to cut sweet potatoes into chunks, splash some veggie broth on them to get whatever seasoning I want to stick. Bake in oven. I also like to make a spicy soup with S&P and poblano peppers. Then I blend it smooth. If I'm feeling crazy, I add black beans and corn after it’s blended.
  14. Sweet potatoes ROCK just all naked.
  15. I like them cut into fries and bake with chili powder, garlic, onion. Baked/steamed with curry powder is good, too.
  16. Vinegar…
  17. Seasoned with Cayenne pepper, Cinnamon, Ginger and a little sugar, then broiled  in oven until caramelized.
  18. I bake them in the oven, then either eat them plain or scoop the meat out of the middle and freeze it in portions to be used later. Frozen sweet potato serves as a base for "ice cream" similar to the banana version. Thawed, it makes a nice "pudding" type dessert. Season with Pumpkin Pie Spice and it tastes just like Pumpkin Pie!
  19. One cup cooked sweet potato, 1/3 cup rolled oats, 1/2 cup water, 2 pitted dates, 1 tablespoon cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, mix in high speed blender until smooth.
  20. Plain with salt and pepper.
  21. Slice thin roast on a baking stone for 15 minutes or until the edges start to crisp - they make the most delicious chips. Or throw on the barbecue grill until they split and the sugar starts to bubble out... oh my, heavenly!
  22. My husband and I like to squeeze lemon juice on baked sweet potatoes.
  23. I bake one, take off the peel, mash with 2 tablespoon Tofurky Chorizo Style, thin with a little veggie broth if needed, and make flautas with them. I roll up in corn tortilla, place seam side down on silicon mat, and bake at 350ºF degrees until crispy. Squiggle a little vegan ranch style soy dressing on top and you have a great appetizer or snack or a great side for a Mexican dinner.
  24. Seasoned with chili powder or Cholula.
  25. Love them in chili or served with black beans and greens. They are great with a little no-salt seasoning or with cinnamon and blueberries.

  27. Bake at 400ºF degrees for an hour and then just eat them like bananas.

  29. Black beans and pineapple salsa. Or vegan yogurt and cinnamon. Yum!
  30. One and a half hours at 400ºF degrees is the bomb. Wrapped in parchment paper. It came out so moist and sweet.
